On 30 July 2013, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr officially opened the $25 million Imaging and Medical beamline at the Australian Synchrotron.
The extended and upgraded beamline will allow live imaging at incredibly high resolution inside the body, and enable new research, diagnostics and treatments. It delivers the world’s widest synchrotron beam, enabling innovative techniques for better detection and treatment in medicine, including cancer and other chronic illnesses.
